Berries signify summer and rightfully so, as the warmer months are the peak harvest for these fruits. It’s no wonder why we have June as Berry month!! In celebration of our menu, we’re giving away TWO sets of 10 complimentary meal passes to Souplantation & Sweet Tomatoes to some lucky blog readers.

  55. I love summertime. I grew up in northern Ontario where we had raspberries and strawberries and rhubarb growing in our yard, and wild blueberries abound! I had the strawberry salad at Sweet Tomatoes last weekend and it was fantastic!

Blueberries and cherries are my ‘snacks’ all summer long I also enjoy blackberries and raspberries. And, every time I visit my local Sweet Tomatoes, I reach for at least one of your famous Blueberry Muffins.

It is made even more perfect topped off with Vanilla frozen yogurt! I have tried to duplicate this dessert at home with no success, so when its time for Berry month we visit Sweet Tomatoes a few times more than usual!

    Banana
    watermelon
    grape

    These three fruits are berries, botanically speaking; the definition of a berry is a simple fruit having seeds and pulp produced from a single ovary; the ovary can be inferior or superior.

    Surprisingly, strawberries are technically not berries because the edible portion is not produced by the ovary. They are classified as accessory fruits.

    That said, I enjoy eating sweet, juicy fruits whether or not they are misclassified!

  213. Sweet Tomatoes has become my daughter’s and I favorite place to go when we go out of town to Raleigh for a shopping day, or a flute competition she may have. We always check our emails for our coupons, because we get them but can’t always use them before they expire since we do live out of town, it’s not as convenient as we would like – which means we don’t get to go as often as we would like. But that just makes our visits even more special when we do get to go! 🙂 We plan our whole schedule around going there to eat, then all the places we’ll shop have to work around that.

    Yeah- Berry month! – You can never go wrong with Strawberries, my daughter’s favorite have always been Blueberries, but I love Raspberries too!

  225. Three berries: Strawberries, Blueberries and Blackberries. I used to pick blackberries along the track as a child and my grandmother made blackberry cobbler for us with homemade ice cream. I still love blackberries as I buy blackberry jam from time to time.

    I will be in DC in July and plan to find Sweet Tomatoes. Haven’t been to Sweet Tomato this month but would love to try the romaine, blue cheese, walnut and berry salad.

  233. I just love berries, all kinds – strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc. We have a blueberry farm near our house & try to go every year to pick fresh. There’s nothing better in the summer than a salad with fresh berries. (except maybe with a few nuts – pecans).
    I can’t wait to try the new cherry salad. I’d like to see a fresh fruit salad for the summer. Maybe a mixture of berries & melons with a bit of pineapple mixed in (no dressing needed)

    Being on a low carb diet, sugar free anything is great to have, but Strawberries are perfect for my eating plan, and sugar free to boot? Sounds like a winner to me.

My favorite berries are strawberries, blackberries, Mulberries: Our family buys up Strawberries from the farmer’s market each week after church; Wild blackberries picked along the creek trail in Oregon; Mulberries from our backyard tree, if we can get them before the squirrels. Berry cobbler a la mode is the best way to finish a yummy dinner at Sweet Tomatoes!

  427. Even though it is stinking hot here in Florida right now, I love this time of year because I can get fresh berries! I don’t think there’s a berry that I don’t love, but some are just essential for summer-time dining! Powerful, wonderful blueberries are hard to beat. I throw a handful into the salads I make at home. Yummy stuff! Fat, juicy raspberries (we called them “razzberries” when I was growing up) are a treat straight from Heaven! Strawberries are almost must-haves from the time they start ripening in late winter here.

    I’m looking forward to going to Sweet Tomatoes to try the Strawberry Fields with Carmelized Walnuts salad. That sounds SO good! Yes, I think it’s time to thrill my daughter and son-in-law with a great meal at Sweet Tomatoes…a favorite treat for them!

  748. My husband & I just went to Sweet Tomatoes in Schaumburg yesterday for a (mostly) healthy lunch. I have to say that the buttermilk strawberry muffins were completely to die for!!! They were so moist and had just enough sweetness that they stood out on their own, with or without the addition of the delicious whipped strawberry butter. These muffins are a must try!!

    1) Cloudberry – Berries that are small brown colored berries that ripen in autumn. You can use them to make jams, juices, tarts and liqueurs. They are high in Vitamin C content and has benzoic acids that act as natural preservative.

    2) Marionberries – Berries that are a cross between Chehalem and Ollalieberry cultivars. They are glossy and darker than blackberries. They are used to prepare pies, ice creams, jellies!

    3) Tayberries – These berries are a cross between a blackberry and raspberry. They are very fragrant and soft berries. You can prepare jams with these berries.

  821. We love the fresh salad slections, clam chowder (for me) and the chicken soup with big chunks of chicken (for my husband)-he adds rice to it. And I also love the chili(I add rice and greens & sometimes bacon bits to it.). So much fun to add our own personal touches.
    Love new themes to pique our interests. As senior citizens, boy, would the free meal passes be a wonderful incentive to come to Sweet Tomatoes more often. Here’s hoping!

  989. We have a ritual when my family and I eat (my favorite) wild Maine blueberry muffins. I eat only the tops and my 6 yr. eats only the bottoms. The fruit dressings are a favorite of my 17 yr. Anytime we have something to celebrate my daughter (17 yr. old) and I go to ST. The 6 yr. old lovvvvves the jello. Wish there was a ST closer to our home, untill then we will continue to travel the 17 miles.

  1128. I’m glad for Summer and berry month at Sweet Tomatoes. I completely love cherries, strawberries, and raspberries so I could live at Sweet Tomatoes for the whole month of June. Strawberry Fields tossed greens, a salad with cherry balsamic (my fave), and a drink of strawberry lemonade, to reach the ultimate ending of the meal with a dessert of strawberry mousse!! If it wasn’t for all the other great months of delicious items (11 more to be exact) I could eat Berry Month all year long – except berries (fresh delicious ones) are only available for a limited time each year so hurry in now before it’s gone for another year!

I think I love berries (especially strawberries) the way most women love chocolate! lol This year, I planted strawberries and blueberries in my yard, but I have to admit that I’m trying to get rid of the blackberry bushes. As good as they taste, the way they take over the yard is just not worth it. 😉

    My favorite berry item at Sweet Tomatoes is something I had there a year or two ago during Berry Month. It was a dessert – a crisp, I think it was apples and strawberries, or maybe pear and strawberries. Whatever it was, it was DELICIOUS!!! And I’m hoping it comes back. 🙂

    As a family we love coming to Sweet Tomatoes frequently and will definitely be in a time or two this month for Berry Month. Thanks for entering me in the drawing. 🙂

This month, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries – all berry berry deeeelicious!!! The blueberry muffins are our favorite, always fresh and hot and just melt in your mouth good!!! Salads dressed with berry dressings and tossed with a fresh colorful assortment of seasonal berries hit the spot every time!! The blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberry’s are great but theres to much great food to pick out just one. I would love to have some Split Pea Soup like my mother used to make but I don’t remember how she did it and you don’t have any way of knowing.

  1452. Strawberries are always a great summer treat and they are so versatile. Blueberries are a close second with healthy side affects such as anti-toxins (also gives us a blue tongue!) Other berries may not be as plentiful but are rather seasonal and territorial, such as raspberries, gooseberries and blackberries. But berries are good for us and tasty too! Got to love those berries.

  1493. Your restaurant is frequented by my husband and I more often than any other in this crazy economy. We always get great service and great food. We are on a limited income so the coupons are very appreciated so just in case no one has told you lately, Thank YOU!

    The sugar-free mousse is the best! I think you need more sugar free desserts. I’d like to see a sugar free cobbler or two. I also think that you should make Splenda available for iced tea.

  1494. LOVE berries! Some favorites are: Rasberries, Blueberries, and Ollalaberries. This is not one I am making up. It is a cross between two berries (bosenberry and gooseberry, I think). It is grown mostly (only) in Oregon and nortern California. It has a short season (June) and unfortunately only seems to be available on the west coase (California, Oregon, and Washington). It is best in fresh fruit pies or just fresh over ice cream.

  1554. The great thing about berries is that they can be used in different ways for baking. I like to make a strawberry sauce for waffles or pancakes. Another this time of year or late spring are making a cherry pie so good fresh from the tree in the backyard. The boysenberries are awesome and when one freezes them individually and store them in a freezer bag you can use what you need without thawing the entire freezer bag. My wife makes a great frozen yogurt pie with boysenberries and strawberries they taste great on a hot summer day. One could make a yogurt pie from blueberries too.
    So the berries are strawberries, boysenberries, cherries, and blueberries

  1663. I moved to Ocala, FL in 2005 which does not have any Sweet tomatoes restaurants! The closest location is an hour away. I drive to Tampa for work once a week and go to Sweet tomatoes for lunch as often as I can without my friends getting burned out! I WISH, WISH, WISH they would build one in Ocala FL. There are so many good locations! In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy lunches in Tampa when I can! Perhaps a blackberry Tea would be really good! and I love the Strawberry Buttermilk Muffins! Maybe put some strawberries sauce mix on the fruit bar area and some low fat whip cream. then we could put it over a muffin/strawberrry biscuit/scone of choice! could even do the strawberries in a sugar substitute. or how about where they do the cheese breads, do a kind of raspberry and cream cheese strudel or open phase on a pastry dough, yummy!!!

    The Strawberry apple cobbler has ALWAYS been my favorite. I frequent my sweet tomatoes as often as possible when they serve this cobbler! I especially prefer the delicious crispy top of the cobbler and sometimes, I even EAT desert first because this cobbler is just THAT good.

    The strawberry buttermilk muffins not only look CUTE because they are pink in color, my son adores them! Spread a little honey butter or strawberry butter and you’ve got yourself a delectable treat!

    How can I forget strawberries in salad? It’s never too late to try a new creation and spruce up your salad with a little sweetness! How dee-lish! At 22 years old, I stay fit by eating a lot of salad and working out to stay healthy, adding the strawberries gets me in the mood for Summer and the added bonus is that it’s super healthy! Strawberries are filled with so many vitamins and the flavor alone could substitute as a dressing, for those who want to nix the calories!

I put it in a soup bowl, so I can get a larger portion, and top it with the soft serve vanilla yogurt. When it’s Berry Month, I have to go multiple times! Oh, and the strawberry muffins with strawberry butter! Ridiculous!!!

    One question: why can’t you incorporate more berries into your berry month menu? Like raspberries, blackberries and marionberries? Hey, what about gooseberries? 😉

  2717. Love the berries!! Besides being so so delicious, they are one of the best nutritional treats around – Low in Fat, Carbs and Calories – High Fiber, Vitamins, minerals and don’t forget antioxidants!!! Hard to choose just a few but I will start with the common favorite – Strawberries, Blueberries (my favorite protein smoothie mixture) and (favorite Sweet Tomatoes item “FAMOUS Wild Maine Blueberry Muffins” Love them!) and tie between raspberries and cranberries. Can’t wait to try the Cherry items another favorite of mine…what can I say..I love fruit! Thanks Sweet Tomatoes!

  2730. Blueberries,raspberries and blackberries Those are my favorites, but I love almost all berries. Can’t wait for my vacation to San Diego to be able to eat at Souplantation again. If we had known there were none in Virginia we may not have chosen to move here. June 29th we’ll be there.

  2755. The Strawberry Fields Salad was without a doubt the best specialty salad I’ve ever had at Souplantation…and that’s saying a lot, because I generally love them all! The strawberry buttermilk muffins were delicious, too. Can’t wait to try the cherry items!

  2790. Gosh I love the Strawberry Fields Salad and the Strawberry muffins are to die for! I would come to Sweet Tomatoes just for those muffins. I think I’ve taken everyone I loved or worked with just for those muffins with that tempting whipped honey butter! I’m salivating already. When is lunchtime already?
