Superfood: Lemons
Pucker Up Sweeties!
When life handed us lemons we created Tart & Tangy Lemon Month! With so many featured menu items this April we wanted to find out a little more about these fruits.
Did you know?
- One lemon can contain twice as much vitamin C than an orange
- Lemons are high in potassium, vitamin A, bioflavonoids, coumarin, pectins and mucilage
- Lemon juice can increase the citrate levels in the body, which may lower the chances of kidney stones
- Lemon trees can produce between 500 & 600 pounds of lemons every year
- Lemon peels can repel spiders
- Demand for lemons reached a peak in 1849 as a way to prevent scurvy for gold miners

Just wanted to say THANK YOU! for finally coming down to Miami! I discovered your restaurant on my way from school, and decided to go in and get take out! Superfriendly and helpful staff, and tasty everything, especially your lemon muffins!! I am addicted already LOL! Just glad that there is a good and available vegetarian option where my friends and I can either dine, or take out here in meat and pork dominated Miami.
Sincerely,
Eva =)
We’re so happy you like us! LETTUCE see you and your friends again soon!
At the Del Mar Valley Center location why have you moved the tapioca and chocolate mousse to the vegetable line and not even provided dishes to put them in? It seems a very strange and awkward position for them and doesn’t work well to put them with the salad plate. We enjoy eating there, but some of your “remodels” are not as nice as the way it was before.
Hi Martha – Thank you for your feedback. Remember, you can always grab a separate plate or grab a bowl and go back through the line 🙂
My wife and I are going on our “typical” Sweet Tomatoes “lunch excursion.”. After church, we come back home, leave the car, and walk to the closest light rail station (we live in Portland, OR). After a 45-minute ride to the end of the “Green Line” at Clackamas Town Center Mall, we then walk the additional 3/4 mile to Sweet Tomatoes (we’ll arrive roughly 2:15). After lunch, we do the reverse.
Door-to-door travel and lunch are roughly 3 hours, 45 minutes (we’ve done this perhaps 10 times in the past).
But it’s worth it!
Bob
Thanks Bob! We’re so happy you like us enough to travel!
We visit your location once a month at TOWN & COUNTRY KENDALL LOCATION. I am a STRICT VEGETARIAN. No meat, fish, chicken , eggs, and Cheese. but butter is ok. It would be wonderful if you could label the breads or corn breads etc ” VEGAN or VEGETARIAN ”
i had to ask the manager at three different visits and then found out one of the breads was suitable for vegetarians.
Since there are so many Vegans and Vegetarians now, it would really be helpful.
Love your Sweet Potatoes and Salads .

Thank you for your suggestion.
Lemons are great, indeed. If you live in the right area, you could also grow your own lemon tree. The advantage is that they fruit almost the whole year. Free lemons every day. 🙂
Hi there –
I have a question about “Sour Plantation!” Could you email me when you have a chance! Thank you!
Hi Kendra – Please feel free to ask your question here, on our Facebook page or by submitting a request through our website!
i love your restaurant but am not crazy about the new menu format on the menus web page. i went to my local souplantation and was disappointed to see that the soups i saw on the menu were not there. when i got home, i looked at the menu and saw the header which read april 1-28th, so i thought that everything was available, but when i looked VERY closely, i realized that parenthetically, they were teeny tiny dates listed for the individual soups availability. i zoomed to 150 per cent and could finally read them clearly. i preferred it when the dates were bold and were headers for the available items since it is barely legible the way you have it now.
Hi C. Thank you for your suggestion. To double check dates you can always call your location restaurant before you visit!
Would you share your recipe for the lemon cookies the servers were passing out last week? SOOOOO GOOD!!!
Hi Gena – We don’t have that recipe at this time but you never know what we’ll release next!
hi just wanted to say this is my favorite restaurant. my mother, daughter and mother in law have mother daughter lunch there once a week. Lemon month is always my favorite, and i am obsessed with your lemon linguine deli pasta with basil. Will you be putting up the recipe now that lemon month is over. i would love to be able to enjoy that salad until you bring it back next year.
Hi Valerie – We occasionally release recipes but not on any type of scheduled basis. Just keep checking back here to see if there are any new ones!
I would love to have the chicken enchilada soup recipes
